Harian Umum Mercusuar was first published on September 1, 1962, by the late H. Rusdy Toana.
Originally established under the name Suara Rakyat, Mercusuar has every reason to be proud, as it is one of the few newspapers in Central Sulawesi and Eastern Indonesia that has managed to survive amidst the dominance of media under national media groups.
PT Tri Media Group (TMG), led by Hi. Tri Putra Toana, is the company that oversees Harian Umum Mercusuar, which to this day remains committed to its slogan of being “The People’s Newspaper of Central Sulawesi.”
